Not everyone realizes that the museum’s name, POLIN, carries a double meaning: in Hebrew, it signifies both “Poland” and “here you shall rest.”

Curator Dr Tamara Sztyma stresses that language is key to understanding culture. While Hebrew served as the principal Jewish language in antiquity, Jewish communities over centuries developed new languages shaped by the societies around them, including Yiddish, Ladino, Judeo-Persian, and Judeo-Arabic.

Jolanta Gumula of POLIN noted that this is likely the first exhibition dedicated solely to Jewish languages.

She added that, amid rising nationalism and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, the display invites reflection on what can still unite people today – with language offering a bridge across cultures.

The exhibition runs from 21 November 2025 until early June 2026.
