“I strongly condemn the overnight missile & drone attacks by Russia on several Ukrainian regions that reportedly killed at least 25 people, including three children,” Guterres wrote on the X platform.
“This once again underlines the urgency of a full, immediate & unconditional ceasefire, as a first step towards a just, comprehensive & sustainable peace that fully upholds Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence & territorial integrity,” he added.
Ukraine’s interior ministry said 25 people, including three children, were killed in the Russian attack on the western city of Ternopil. Another 73 people were wounded, among them 15 children.
Kremlin forces struck Ukraine on Wednesday morning with more than 470 drones and almost 50 missiles, the ministry said. Two residential blocks were hit, triggering fires, and strikes also targeted the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
Earlier on Wednesday, media including Axios and the Financial Times reported on a negotiated peace plan with Russia that the United States is seeking to press Ukraine to accept. The plan would reportedly hand Moscow control of the remaining non-occupied part of the Donbas region, involve partial disarmament and a sharp reduction in the size of Ukraine’s armed forces, and, according to Axios, include U.S. recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and Donbas.
